For many decades it was an important center of the city’s commercial and formerly well-developed small textile business life.<\/p>\n
It had been derelict for several years due to the economic crisis and the flight of most commercial and other uses from the city.<\/p>\n
The area is slowly but steadily changing, as has happened in the past in other nearby areas like “Valaoritou”. In 2023, the first phase of the Thessaloniki Metro will be completed, being the starting point of all its lines. Buildings are being converted into apartments for people who prefer to be close to the city center without having to pay high rents. The area has awakened and \u201cTHE PLAN C\u201d, true to its philosophy of transformation in order to create a new whole that combines the old with the new, created \u201cNIREAS\u201d.<\/p>\n
